“There is nothing religious about Boko Haram” – Yobe Governor, Geidam

Following the Boko Haram attack at Yadin
Buni town of Gujba Local Government
Area of Yobe State, last week where lives
and property worth millions of naira were
lost, Governor, Ibrahim Gaidam on
Tuesday said the Boko Haram insurgents
would not succeed in their ceaseless
campaign of violence against Nigeria and
Nigerians.

The Governor regretted that the sect had
inflicted much pains on the people
especially in the two North Eastern states
of Borno and Yobe.

Gaidam who was at Buni-Yadi,
headquarters of Gujba Local Government
on inspection of public facilities destroyed
by the insurgents stated that both
Christians and Muslims have continued to
pray for God to intervene in the almost
four years old insurgency.

He maintained that the prayers of
Nigerians would receive answer by God,
noting that the sect would not succeed in
its blood letting.

He expressed hope that the
incessant attacks would soon be
over and that the affected areas would
soon heave a sigh of relief.

The Governor, however, observed that
“there is “nothing religious about the
Boko Haram sect and its activities”.

He said the ideology of the sect was
“completely unacceptable”, as no religion
believes in killing and compelling of
others to accept one’s way of worship.
While sympathizing with the affected
persons, the Governor commended the
security agencies in the state and assured
of government readiness to continue to
support them to fight insurgency and
other crimes in the area.

He described the latest attack as “callous
and barbaric”.
It could be re-called that suspected Boko
Haram insurgents attacked the
commercial town of Buni-Yadi in Yobe last
Wednesday, killing several persons.
The local government education office,
fire service unit, resident of the Divisional
Police Officer, a police station and a
residential quarter were among the
structures burnt by the insurgents.
